Just Peace Advocates expresses our full solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, including full support for an immediate independent inquest into the alleged murder of Regis Korchinski-Paquet who died when she fell from a high rise while Toronto Police Services were present.
We understand as allies it is imperative that individuals, groups, and civil society refuse to “cherry pick” movements to support, therefore we are calling all supporters who denounce racial inequality to denounce anti-black racism and fully support the Black Lives Matter movement.
We understand that just as there is anti-black racism in America, Canada is equally complicit in anti-black racism. Just as we support an inquest into the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, we also support the prosecution of Derek Chauvin the officer who is on camera murdering George Floyd.
We will continue to denounce anti-black racism, including the racism inherent in the police system.
We stand in solidarity and respect the brave resistance to end police brutality, racial injustice and white supremacy. Just Peace Advocates also understands the need to combat anti-black racism and will take direction from black folks and follow as allies in the fight against anti-black racism.
We also condemn the training of police in Israel, and the government and police leadership in this regard.
