Rallies planned across the country to call for peace not war

(Montreal) Rallies are planned across the country to call on the federal government to fund peace not war. From Saturday, October 15 to Sunday, October 23, peace groups will be on the streets in nine cities to demand the Trudeau government negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine and cancel the planned procurement of new fighter jets, warships, or armed drones.

The #FundPeaceNotWar week of action will be held in Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Ottawa, Waterloo, South Georgian Bay, Hamilton and Montreal. There will be rallies, a conference, webinars and online actions. Groups want the federal government to invest in housing, health care, jobs and climate action, not more war. They want Canada to reduce military spending and demilitarize Canadian foreign policy.

This week of action has been planned by the Canada-Wide Peace and Justice Network, a coalition of 45 civil society organizations across the country that was founded two years ago. For more information on the virtual and in-person actions, visit: https://peaceandjusticenetwork.ca/fundpeacenotwar/

The Canadian week of action is being held in solidarity with the “Back to the Streets: End Endless War” call to action initiated by the United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC) in the United States: https://unac.notowar.net/back-to-the-streets-say-no-to-u-s-wars-october-15-23/
