Faced with its complicity in war crimes, the CDPQ is unable to answer the questions of the Quebec Coalition URGENCE Palestine
Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal, August 8, 2024 – At a meeting held late on August 7, the Quebec Coalition URGENCE Palestine [hereinafter the Coalition] and its allies were met with polite silence in the face of their demand for divestment from the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) in connection with its $14.2 billion investments in 87 companies linked to the illegal occupation and colonization of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and the genocidal war in Gaza.
The delegation gave a comprehensive presentation demonstrating the serious implications of CDPQ’s investments in relation to the OPT, giving four examples: WSP, Alstom, Caterpillar and Lockheed Martin. Like the 83 others targeted by the Coalition, these companies are carrying out activities in violation of international law and the human rights of the Palestinian people.
The CDPQ claims to adhere to the highest ethical standards in investment and respect for human rights. The delegation asked whether the CDPQ considered that the four examples presented corresponded to these standards: no one was able to answer.
This was nothing new for the CDPQ, since for over two years, various interlocutors have tried, in vain, to draw its attention to the more than problematic nature of these investments. The CDPQ refuses to recognize the seriousness of the situation and to take the immediate measures that are necessary. We refuse to allow the nest eggs of Quebecers to be tainted with the blood of Palestinians.
Faced with the CDPQ’s silence, the Coalition and its allies have requested a meeting with the CDPQ’s board of directors. In the meantime, the Coalition and its allies will continue to mobilize public opinion and put pressure on the CDPQ to review its investments and respect international law.

Confrontée à sa complicité pour crimes de guerre, la CDPQ incapable de répondre aux questions de la Coalition du Québec URGENCE Palestine
Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal, le 8 août 2024 – Lors d’une réunion qui s’est tenue le 7 août en fin de journée, la Coalition du Québec URGENCE Palestine [ci-après la Coalition] et ses allié.es n’ont rencontré qu’un silence poli face à leur revendication de désinvestissement de la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) en rapport avec ses investissements de 14,2 milliards de dollars dans 87 entreprises liées à l’occupation et à la colonisation illégales du Territoire palestinien occupé (TPO) et à la guerre génocidaire à Gaza.
La délégation a fait un exposé exhaustif démontrant les graves implications des investissements de la CDPQ en rapport avec le TPO, dont elle a donné quatre exemples: WSP, Alstom, Caterpillar et Lockheed Martin. Comme les 83 autres visées par la Coalition, ces entreprises mènent des activités en violation du droit international et des droits humains du peuple palestinien.
La CDPQ prétend adhérer aux plus hauts standards éthiques en matière d’investissement et de respect des droits de la personne. La délégation a demandé si la CDPQ considérait que les quatre exemples présentés correspondaient à ces standards: personne n’a été en mesure de répondre.
Ce n’était là rien de nouveau pour la CDPQ, puisque, depuis près de deux ans, divers interlocuteurs tentent, en vain, d’attirer son attention sur le caractère plus que problématique de ces investissements. La CDPQ refuse de reconnaître la gravité de la situation et de prendre les mesures immédiates qui s’imposent. Nous refusons que le bas de laine des Québécois.es soit entaché du sang des Palestinien.nes.
Face au silence de la CDPQ, la Coalition et ses allié.es ont demandé une rencontre avec le conseil d’administration de la CDPQ. D’ici là, la Coalition et ses allié.es continueront à mobiliser l’opinion publique et à faire pression sur la CDPQ pour qu’elle revoie ses investissements et respecte le droit international.
