Research from Just Peace Advocates has revealed a comprehensive list of the many philanthropic organizations discreetly funding HonestReporting Canada’s harassment and misinformation campaigns.

This includes $82,000 from the United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto.

UJA claims its “mission is to preserve and strengthen the quality of Jewish life” and leads “a community characterized by its diversity, unity, compassion, generosity.” Does HRC doxing healthcare workers fit into that UJA mission statement? What about HRC writing an editorial for the Ottawa Citizen claiming Canadians should fear potential violence from Gaza’s refugees? 

Or HRC targeting a Palestinian-owned family restaurant for harassment, as they did this October?

The Azrieli Foundation has donated close to $75,000 to HRC. 

The Azrieli Foundation has funded the Jerusalem Foundation and the Jewish National Fund (whose charitable status was revoked by the CRA after a public pressure campaign around its ties to the Israeli military and illegal settlements.) It also donated to the Israeli fascist settler organization Im Tirtzu.

The Azrieli Foundation founded the Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies at Concordia University, which was characterized by far right Zionist Gerald Steinberg as an intentional “counterattack” against BDS advocacy on campus.

The Azrieli Group has past and present investments in companies that do business on illegal West Bank settlements.

 “New kid on the block” is the Ronald S Roadburg Foundation, named after the deceased Vancouver real estate scion. Since being established in 2022, they have donated $250,000 to HRC.

The Foundation has also donated to the United Israel Fund, Hillel, and the aforementioned Jerusalem Foundation and Jewish National Fund. They are financial supporters of Mizrachi Canada, which has been identified by Just Peace Advocates as having substantial links to far settler groups like Im Tirtzu and Regavim, as well as the Duvdevan Foundation, an Israeli charity that supports its namesake IOF unit notorious for carrying out extrajudicial assassinations of Palestinians. 

The Roadburg Foundation’s official program descriptions include “strengthening the northern Galilee region in Israel.”

The charitable foundations of former senator Linda Frum ($5000) and former gold magnate Peter Munk ($2000) are also HRC supporters. Other large sums have come from the P. Austin Family Foundation ($100,000,) the Atid Charitable Foundation ($40,000), the Asper Foundation ($20,000,) and the Rotman Family Foundation ($12,500.)

The Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto, ($45,000,) the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal ($41,000,) the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver ($19,000) and the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary ($2,500) are listed amongst HRC donors.

The GiftPact Foundation – tied to Quadrant Wealth Management – has given over $50,000 to HRC.  

These philanthropic organizations are able to maintain benign, benevolent public profiles, all while quietly funding a lobby group’s racist incitement campaigns. It’s a process of influence-laundering that is subsidized by Canadian tax dollars. 

In any other circumstance, bankrolling a glorified hate group would be seen as a liability to the public stature of a “respectable” charity. But if these donors assumed no one would notice, they were wrong.
