FIFA removes right to Indonesia host the U-20 Word Cup, when Indonesia rejects Israel’s participation

After a meeting on March 29, 2023 between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) Erick Thohir, FIFA decided,

due to the current circumstances, to remove Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023™. A new host will be announced as soon as possible, with the dates of the tournament currently remaining unchanged. Potential sanctions against the PSSI may also be decided at a later stage.

The U-20 World Cup with 24 teams was scheduled to be held from May 20 to June 11 in six Indonesian cities.

According to the Palestine Chronicle

Tel Aviv and Jakarta have no formal diplomatic ties. Indonesia has repeatedly condemned Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and called for a boycott of Israeli goods.

Earlier in March, it is reported that protesters had marched in the capital of Jakarta with Indonesian and Palestinian flags, demanding Israel not be allowed to participate.

The U-20 tournament was cancelled after the governor of Bali refused to host Israel’s team.

Meanwhile the Israeli military tear gasses the Palestinian final game.

Details: Israeli forces, unprovoked, broke into the premises of the PFA (Palestine Football Association) through the main gate. Tear gassed the pitch and stands.
The match was stopped for an hour to treat the injured who were many, among whom were women and children (please see photos)
