Du 1er au 24 juillet 2022, la 109e édition du Tour de France est organisée au départ de Copenhague au Danemark puis à travers plusieurs villes de Belgique et de France. Pour la troisième année consécutive, la plus grande compétition de cyclisme au monde accueille sur la ligne de départ l’équipe Israël Premier Tech anciennement connu sous le nom d’Israël Start-Up Nation.
Fondée par l’homme d’affaires israélo-canadien Sylvan Adams, cette équipe a pour vocation de promouvoir l’apartheid israélien. En effet, « les membres de l’équipe sont des ambassadeurs du pays d’Israël, qui est la base de l’équipe. On utilise le sport pour créer des liens et porter l’image du pays » comme ils le soulignent eux-mêmes dans un journal français.
La présence de cette équipe aux ambitions ouvertement politiques est d’autant plus scandaleuse quand on voit que l’Union Cycliste Internationale est capable de sanctionner plusieurs équipes russes et biélorusses en raison de la politique de leurs États respectifs mais en devient incapable quand il s’agit de dénoncer la politique israélienne. Cela démontre une nouvelle fois que ce qui est en cause n’est pas la légitimité du boycott sportif mais bien les cibles qu’il combat.
Alors qu’Israël continue sa politique coloniale, d’apartheid et de nettoyage ethnique, nous appelons à intensifier le boycott d’Israël en tant qu’outil anticolonialiste et antiraciste solidaire de la résistance palestinienne qui se bat pour la libération de la Palestine de la mer au Jourdain. Dans ce cadre, nous appelons à boycotter l’équipe Israël Premier Tech et à multiplier les actions durant cette compétition. Les drapeaux de la Palestine doivent flotter partout afin de rappeler que nous n’acceptons pas la présence d’une équipe représentante des bourreaux du peuple palestinien.

From July 1 to 24, 2022, the 109th edition of the Tour de France will launch from Copenhagen, Denmark, and then proceed through several cities in Belgium and France. For the third consecutive year, the biggest cycling competition in the world is welcoming the Israel Premier Tech team, formerly known as Israel Start-Up Nation, to the starting line.
Founded by Israeli-Canadian businessman Sylvan Adams, this team aims to promote Israeli apartheid. Indeed, “the members of the team are ambassadors of the country of Israel, which is the basis of the team. We use sport to create links and promote the image of the country,” as the team openly underlines in a quote to a French newspaper.
The presence of this team with openly political ambitions is all the more scandalous when we see that the International Cycling Union is currently sanctioning several Russian and Belarusian teams because of the policies of their respective States, but becomes incapable of doing so when it comes to denouncing Israeli policy. This demonstrates once again that what is in question is not the legitimacy of the sports boycott but the targets it is addressing.
As Israel continues its policy of colonialism, apartheid and ethnic cleansing, we call for the intensification of the boycott of Israel as an anti-colonialist and anti-racist tool in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance which fights for the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea. In this context, we call for a boycott of the team Israel Premier Tech and for increased actions and organizing during this competition. The flag of Palestine must fly everywhere in order to make it clear that we do not accept the presence of a team representing the executioners of the Palestinian people.
