This petition is sponsored by Alistair MacGregor NDP MP. The petition supports MP MacGregor’s private member Bill C-231, an Act to amend the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board Act. This legislationis meant to ensure a proactive approach of due diligence is taken by the CPP Investment Board to ethically invest Canada Pension Plan funds while maintaining its overall mandate of achieving a maximum rate of return without undue risk of loss. Canadians expect that Canada Pension Plan (CPP) investments be carried out with human rights and international law in mind. Many of our CPP funds have been invested in companies with questionable track records, including weapons manufacturers, private prisons, the oil and gas sector, illegal Israeli settlements, foreign mining companies and other companies involved in serious human and labour rights transgressions. READ “NDP call on Canada Pension Plan to dump shares of controversial surveillance company Palantir” in Toronto Star earlier this week. Just Peace Advocates has joined with other civil society organizations with a focus related to business and investment accountability. This includes a call towards ethnical investment of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). Sign the petition to support Bill C-231 as an initial step towards ethnical investment in the Canada Pension Plan.https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2966 |
