Alex Saab is Free! but the work continues…

Venezuelan Diplomat Alex Saab has been released from U.S. prison!

Held by Cabo Verde since June 2020 by orders of the US, he was extradited to the USA in October 2021.

The return of Alex Saab on December 20, 2023 to Venezuela is a victory against the inhuman U.S. blockade on Venezuela and for oppressed people around the world who struggle for justice and freedom against U.S. and NATO led wars, sanctions, and occupation.

The case of Alex Saab raised dangerous precedents in terms of extraterritorial judicial abuse by the US in enforcing its unilateral coercive measures on Venezuela and other countries, comprising a third of humanity.

For 3.5 years Alex Saab was a prisoner of the United States for circumventing U.S. sanctions, saving lives in Venezuela by bringing food, water, and fuel.

On December 19, 2023, Just Peace Advocates joined with the Fire This Time Movement for Social Justice Venezuela Solidarity Campaign for it 34th consecutive monthly Free Alex Saab! US/Canada Hands Off Venezuela! online picket, not knowing that in less than 24 hours, Alex Saab would be in Venezuela! It has been an honour to join Fire This Time Movement and those that part of the Social Justice Venezuela Solidarity Compaign over these last almost three years of monthly on-line pickets.

As we are relieved that Alex Saab is back home in Venezuela with his family, we remember and recognize the continuous support of the late Professor Luis Acuña Cedeño, Charge d’affaires of the Venezuela Embassy in Canada, Bolivarian revolutionary leader and educator who passed passed away in August 2023.

The work continues to lift sanctions on Venezuela and other countries, and in regard to release of Prisoners in Palestine, in Kashmir and elsewhere, those individuals who as human right defenders are being held by oppressors silencing them.
