Saturday, January 29
Today across Canada, there are emergency rallies taking place in cities from Victoria to Montreal calling on the Trudeau government to de-escalate and demilitarize the Ukraine crisis. The #StandForPeace rallies are organized by peace and justice groups. They are opposed to Canada sending weapons, soldiers and special forces to Ukraine. They call on the government to engage in diplomatic negotiations for a political solution and a lasting peace with Russia and Ukraine. The groups are also calling for Canada to withdraw from NATO and for the US-led, nuclear-armed military alliance to be disbanded. The rallies will also be complemented by a #StandForPeace social media campaign.
