This June, Palestinians mark 13 years since the start of the Gaza closure.
In 2018, Just Peace Advocates with Al-Haq began the Gaza2020 campaign in Canada. In 2019 we made a clear call to the Canadian to place sanctions on Israel until at least the blockade on Gaza is lifted. Over 100 organizations have joined in that call over the last 2 years, with more than 75 of these supporting the call on Canada for sanctions until at least the blockade on Gaza is lifted.
13 years too long: Lift the Gaza closure and let Palestinians live!
Just Peace Advocates is pleased to renew this call which includes a petition to the United Nations Human Rights Council and all United Nation member countries.
Palestine-Petition to Canadian Government
Specfically in Canada this includes supporting the promotion of the formal government petition, E-2565 sponsored by Paul Manly that
requests that Israel immediately lift the blockade on Gaza to enable medical and humanitarian aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, and insist that Israel permanently end its blockade of Gaza; and vote at the UN General Assembly in alignment with the majority of the international community taking a stance in line with international law and human rights for Palestinians.
The June 2020 Campaign
The campaign runs from June 9 to June 16 with daily actions.

As the world continues to respond to COVID-19, Palestinians in Gaza are particularly susceptible to the pandemic due to overcrowding, the inability to access adequate water and sanitation, and a healthcare system crippled by successive Israeli military attacks and years of structural violence that denies Palestinians their basic human rights, with impunity.
All aspects of life in the Gaza Strip have been undermined by Israel’s prolonged closure. Since 2012, the UN has repeatedly warned that Gaza would become unliveable by 2020 should Israel fail to lift its illegal closure, which has severely deprived Palestinians of the ability to exercise their individual and collective rights
We are calling for a genuine solidarity movement that will allow us to create the political will to address the root causes of the deprivation of Palestinian’s rights in Gaza and to lift Israel’s illegal closure. The Palestinian people in Gaza need effective measures and meaningful global action and solidarity to let Gaza live and lift the closure with immediate effect.
Also a petition to the Human Rights Council and the United Nations Member states for lifting the closure has been prepared which we would be encouraging organizations to share.
