Over 39,000 children have lost one or both parents in Gaza and over 17,000 have lost both parents since October 2023. Stats are from a new report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

As of our latest update (April 10), a total of 107 MP candidates across all 10 provinces have endorsed the Protect Palestinian Children Now campaign. In addition to endorsing the campaign, some candidates have provided additional statements expressing their support. A full list of statements can be found here.

“Anything to stop the illegal occupation, apartheid, and genocide of civilian men, women, and children.”

— Jennifer Purdy, Green Party, Kanata

“I wholeheartedly endorse this initiative and strongly believe that no child should ever face detention, prosecution under military courts, or be harmed in military operations. The violations against Palestinian children are unacceptable and must be condemned.”

— Yusuf Ulukanligil, ndp, York Centre

“There is terrible violence against children throughout the West Bank and Gaza, and it is integral that Canada leads the effort for a ceasefire, an end to the occupation, and the recognition of a Palestinian State.”

— Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, liberal party, Beaches–East York

Dear [name],

Have you heard of the Protect Palestinian Children Now campaign? PPCN asks candidates to “condemn Israel’s killing, injuring, and detaining of Palestinian children, and the trauma that is being inflicted on children through the military occupation and genocide. This includes insisting in a military arms embargo by Canada, and that Canada take immediate and urgent steps to insist Israel comply with its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the recent ICJ Advisory Opinion.” As of March 31, 62 candidates (including 13 incumbents) have endorsed PPCN.

Recently, the United Nations released a video showing how:

unprecedented levels of destruction in Gaza render conditions nearly unlivable, with the heaviest toll on children, who are trapped between the wreckage of war and the absence of safety. UN experts warn that nearly all of Gaza’s one million children suffer from severe psychological trauma amid acute food shortages.

Israel is killing a child in Gaza approximately every 45 minutes. Every day, 100 children are killed or injured. On March 30, a volunteer doctor in Gaza said:

“Spent the entire morning and afternoon cutting brand new Eid clothes off dead children.”

This must end. Act now:
